Human beings have an inborn desire for improvement. We're always looking to get a better job, to upgrade our Acton real estate, to buy a newer car. Unfortunately, the recession has left a lot of people without the means to buy a newer or larger home. But that doesn't mean they have to settle for their current one. If you're in this situation, you might consider right sizing your home, which is a way of updating and refreshing your home in such a way that it almost feels like a brand new house. Learn more about it here.

Proponents of right sizing oppose the notion that in order to be prosperous we need to buy homes in Hudson Valley subdivisions that are way out of proportion with the space our families need. In right sizing you learn to make better use of space so you don't have to buy as much square footage. It's a waste not, want not approach that is popular with more environmentally minded homeowners. In a right sized home, there are no rooms that are never used and no rooms that are overused. It's a balance.

The key to finding that balance is to think carefully about what your needs actually are. Not what the real estate agent who sells Mississauga homes thinks your needs are, or what conventional logic dictates your needs are, but your family's specific needs. For instance, if your family is very active, and you hardly ever have visitors, you might want to have a workout room rather than a spare bedroom. So the first step in any right sizing project is to sit down together and figure out what you really need.

Once you've hammered out how much of what types of space you need, it's time to figure out how you can have that in the London real estate you currently own. This necessarily means sacrificing, renovating, converting, or repurposing the rooms you don't currently get much use out of. For instance, if you spend a lot of time cooking but never eat in the formal dining room, why not knock out the wall between the two rooms and expand your kitchen into the dining room?

Since right sizing involves a certain amount of creative thinking, not everyone will be capable of right sizing their own homes. If that's the case with your family, consider hiring an interior designer (not an interior decorator) to help you redesign your Meadowvale real estate. With your knowledge of your family's needs and the interior designer's knowledge of carpentry and space allocation, you should be able to come up with a plan to transform your home for the better.
